On November 29, 2024, Allegro organized its 8th Netherlands ALMA Science Day at the Leiden Observatory — for the first time at the new Gorlaeus building. The aim of the meeting was to bring all members of the community together to present the latest scientific results obtained with ALMA and discuss what ALMA can deliver back to the community in the coming decades.

The event was a great success, with ~ 50 registered participants and invited speakers such as Serena Viti (Leiden; Results of the ALCHEMI Large Program), Gergö Popping (ESO; Status of ALMA and ALMA2030 upgrade), and Eva Schinnerer (MPIA; ALMA2040). Talks covered a broad range of topics, from astrochemistry to the high-z universe, from polarization studies of dust and gas to spectroscopy surveys covering thousands of emission lines. We further discussed the resources that ALMA observers currently need (and anticipate needing), with a particular emphasis on Allegro’s role in supporting the community in the Netherlands.

The Science Day concluded with a tour of the freshly re-opened Laboratory for Astrophysics, offering participants the opportunity to explore the intricacies of chemistry under low-density conditions. The atmosphere provided a relaxed setting for informal conversations about the future of Allegro and ALMA, enjoyed over a glass of prosecco. We sincerely thank Leiden University for hosting the event and all attendees for contributing to such an engaging and enjoyable day.
